Thoughts and doings

Start with the verse in Ephesians. Paul is sending the letter from prison.

Daniel, Pablo and I went to visit the prison in San Juan de Lurigancho. The prison is commonly known as Luri.
We got there very late, compared with other different visits.
Still, I knew how things ran and there was no problem getting there. There was not a long line this time. So we went straight in, filled up papers and were being frisked and asked money at the police checkpoints.
Once inside I knew where to go. The sun was coming out of the clouds and the day was getting nicer. We walked passed one gate and as we walked to Nick´s place we ran into Calef. He was very, very glad to see Daniel and Pablo. He had lived with them when they were younger. I had known Calef also, Daniel had introduced him to me, a very long while ago.
I had seen him again when I came with Stephen Reams to visit Nick on my visit before this one.
So then we walked to Nick's cell. Calef had to pay 50 cents to get into Nick's building, even though he had paid he was not allowed to go any further to Nick's room. I told him that we were going to get Nick and we would meet outside.

We went inside and walked to Nick's place. He lives on the second floor of his building. As I turned right after the stairs I saw Nick. How good it was to see him again. He looks the same I saw him last. Very thin.
We went into his room which he shares with about 10 others and sat down. Pablo and Daniel sat on his bed. Nick and I sat on plastic chairs right in front of them. He started to talk.

I was just realizing that was what we will be doing most of the day. Talking and listening.

After a little while I asked Nick to come out with us to go to find Calef. So we went out of his building and met with Calef. We walked the up the street till we got to a sort of bench and sat down again, to talk.

That is how the day was spent. Listening to these two men. Encouraging and sharing life with them.

It felt weird outside, knowing that we are free and that they are not. What does it mean to be free? It seems at a times that life there inside is better than the life out here, or vice versa.
